Just Lucky?

I remember once someone saying to me, “You always land on your feet don’t you?” I was shocked, I’d never thought that things always turned out right for me, I just thought I worked towards the things I wanted to do. Later I realized the person talking to me was an alcoholic and her drinking constantly dragged her down so she thought she always had “bad luck”.

Another time someone thought I was incredibly lucky I had no idea what they were on about. I had been in Scotland for probably about a year and Papa and I were out with some friends on our motorbikes. We were all stopped by a track for some reason and I wandered off to investigate the area. (Does that sound familiar?) Purple Heather was growing everywhere but as I wandered about I stumbled across some White Heather and picked a little bit because it was different. When I arrived back where the others were the girl who was with us looked at me incredulously and said, “Where did you get that?” I just gestured up the bank in the general area but she insisted I show her. I didn’t know exactly where it was and didn’t understand the fuss. When we couldn’t find it again she told me how incredibly lucky I was, it was special “Lucky White Heather”. Was it really luck that made me find it?

You didn’t know that about Nana did you?

I’m a sister, wife, mother, grandmother, auntie and friend. I prefer to be outside and am interested in photography, nature and different cultures. I believe everything on this earth has a right to be here but some things and some people would be happiest if their space was far away from mine. (Flies and biting bugs take note!) I don’t like housework and think dust is Nature’s way of saying, “This is my space, I was here first.”

Does this ring any bells with you?
