Grass Tree

I love these plants and saw so many growing beside the roads around the Mt Bold Reservoir here in South Australia that I decided to try and grow them at our place. We live on a larger and hillier than average block with clay and shale so not what you’d call an ideal gardening environment. I bought 3 tiny Grass Tree seedlings from the plant nursery at Belair National Park. I planted them in a little cluster but only 1 survived. I can’t remember what year I bought them but they are very slow growing. In 2012 there was a glorious flowering spike and the plant looks as though it’s in for the long haul. It’s not the kind of Grass Tree that has the growing trunk.

I’m a sister, wife, mother, grandmother, auntie and friend. I prefer to be outside and am interested in photography, nature and different cultures. I believe everything on this earth has a right to be here but some things and some people would be happiest if their space was far away from mine. (Flies and biting bugs take note!) I don’t like housework and think dust is Nature’s way of saying, “This is my space, I was here first.”
